Kinazini Funzi Dhow is a family venture which was started in 1992. Kalthum and Heinrich Lueth took over the company in 2009 and it is now run by Hassani Shapi.
I was an actor before taking over Funzi Kinazini Day Safari as the managing director. After spending almost 30 years living in Europe and using the stage name Hassani Shapi ( ‘Lezione di Cioccolato’, ‘Nessuno mi puo juidicare’, Jedi Knight in ‘Star Wars - the Phantom Menace’, James Bond - ‘A view to a kill’, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, ‘Sharm al Sheikh’ etc, etc. ) home was calling me back and what a better place to find myself than in Funzi and Kinazini. The calm, the sea, the quiet and meeting different people everyday on our excursions is all I needed.
I studied at Kenyatta University and at Ukunda Commercial College before joining Funzi Kinazini Day Safari in 2019. I am now head of Accounts and Sales. My son Jermaine, my pride and joy, was born on the 8th September, 2023.
I started with Kinazini Funzi Dhow Safari in 1997. Born in Limuru, Central Province, I moved to Kwale District in 1995. As the Operations Manager, it is my duty to look after all the staff at the base camp and deal with the day to day execution of the excursions.
I joined Funzi Kinazini Dhow Safari in 2000, having worked at several hotels in and around Kwale District. It gives me great pleasure to be creating dishes for all our wonderful guests.
As a young lad, I learnt the building of dhows from my father, building the dhow from scratch, starting with the planks of wood and manually carving them into the shape of the dhow. Originally from Lamu, I have been with Funzi Kinazini since 2000.
Born and raised in Bodo, I have worked with Funzi Kinazini Day Safari since the beginning of the company in 1992. Having obtained my coxswain certificate in 2004, nothing gives me more pleasure than sailing in Funzi Bay on our dhows or on riding on our motorised canoes.
